“Caelestia” is a Greek extreme metal band, initially formed in April 2012 by singer/songwriter Dimitra Vintsou and bassist/composer Nikos Palivos. Starting off initially as an alternative / gothic metal band, it later steered its musical genre towards progressive / symphonic extreme metal, having undergone some lineup changes in the meantime.

The band’s debut album “Beneath Abyss” was recorded and mixed in Basement Studios (Athens) in the second half of 2014, under the supervision of sound engineer Michalis Meleteas, while the mastering was undertaken by Fascination Street Studios in Sweden, under the direct supervision by sound engineer Tony Lindgren (Paradise Lost, Katatonia, Enslaved, Witchcraft etc.). The album’s artwork was assigned to artist Seth Siro Anton (Septic Flesh, Paradise Lost, Moonspell etc.).

The first album featured guest appearances by two famous metal artists, i.e. lead singer Bjorn “Speed” Strid of SOILWORK and drummer Markus “Makka” Freiwald of SODOM. The band signed a record deal with metal Finnish label Inverse Records, and the album was worldwide released on February 16th, 2015.

Along with the release of the album, the band concluded its first official video clip for the title track “Beneath Abyss”, which was shot on various locations in southern Germany, and was directed by German director Matthias Kollek (Kreator, Lacrimosa etc.). The band had also released two official lyric videos for tracks “Secret Rite” and “Blessing Of Tragedy”.

The current lineup of the band (finalized in September 2015) consists of 6 members: 2 vocalists (Nikos Palivos-brutal vocals & Dimitra Vintsou-female vocals), 2 guitarists (Vassilis Thomas & Vangelis Evangelou) and the rhythm section (Stelios Varotsakis – bass & Socratis Panagouleas – drums).

The band was featured in the June 2015 issue of Metal Hammer Greece magazine with a full interview and an album review, whereas a band TV interview took place on official Metal Hammer Greece TV show called “TV War” on May 11th, 2015. A second TV appearance was aired in January 2016, where the band was featured in the “Live Session” section of the same TV show, performing the track “Lake Of Decay”. Other significant Greek media of the metal scene featured band interviews, such as RockHard Greece, Rock Overdose and Metal Invader. In the summer of 2015, the band completed its official endorsement photoshoot with gothic clothing manufacturers The Black Angel. The stringed instruments trio of “Caelestia” has been included in the official Artists’ Section of Schecter Guitar Research Co. international web page, as the very first official Schecter endorsees in Greece. The band’s guitar duo (V. Thomas & V. Evangelou) is also scheduled to appear in the official SchecterTV channel within 2017, with a guitar playthrough video of new album guitar parts.

At the end of 2015, the band decided to launch a second round of promotion for the album “Beneath Abyss”, and the promotional campaign was undertaken by ClawHammer PR (Scott Alissoglu). As a result of the second round of promotion, the band was featured (interviews, reviews etc) in numerous European & American magazines, sites & webzines (Zero Tolerance, Outburn USA, Friedhof, Necromance, Battlehelm, Queens Of Steele, Women Of Metal, Soulgrinder, Wonderbox etc), as well as was given airplay in several European & American radio stations (e.g. Wacken Radio).

As far as live performances are concerned, Caelestia appeared as a sole support act at the Arch Enemy headline show in Athens, on November 14th 2015 (Gagarin 205 Club). Another live show in Athens took place on February 14th 2016, supporting Swedish doom/death band Draconian. Several shows with bands of the local metal scene followed until the summer of 2016.

Having concluded the preproduction for the band’s sequel to “Beneath Abyss”, the band entered Bombtrack Studios in October 2016 (Athens, w/ sound engineer Michalis Meleteas), in order to track 10 new songs for the forthcoming album. The tracking & editing was successfully concluded in February 2017. The mixing and mastering of the new album was undertaken by the renowned “Fredman Studios” (Gothenburg / Sweden), in the experienced hands of none other than Fredrik Nordström, a producer responsible for the creation of the famous “Gothenburg sound” which characterizes a big part of the world metal scene in the last 25 years. The mix & master new album, with a total running time of 59 minutes, was delivered by the end of March 2017.

Like in the first album, there were appearances of renowned guest artists of the international metal community, i.e. drummer Jason Bittner (Flotsam & Jetsam, Shadows Fall etc). The album’s cover and artwork was prepared by French artist Gogo Melone (GM+ Studio). The band’s official album photography was trusted to Nikos Mylonas and Cosmas Hiolos (Krieg-Design) completed the graphic designs.

The band is planning to release its new album in autumn / winter 2017, whereas several other promotional actions are scheduled, alongside with live appearances both in and outside Greece etc.
